Purchasing Software

The accessibility of software purchased by the University of Florida is an important step to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Furthermore, the acquisition of system or department-wide software or technologies that affect a large number of students, faculty, and staff must meet accessibility guidelines before approval of purchase. Prior to purchase, we recommend that accessibility language be added to request for proposals (RFP’s) and purchasing contracts. When speaking with vendors, request specific information on the accessibility features of their product and its compliance with Section 508 standards. Prior to the purchase of technologies and software, extensive testing should be completed to determine the product’s accessibility.
